Throughout the 16 weeks you will practice many skills learned through individual and group activities.
What is YWCA Trade Journey? It is a 16 week training program we have built to support women transition from minimum wage jobs into jobs in the construction industry that offer higher pay and good benefits. The program offers 13 weeks of classroom instruction for career planning, confidence building, job readiness skills, job search search management skills, fitness, math, certification in the safety tickets needed for the worksite, gets you equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (Steel Toed Boots, Hard Hat, Visibility Vests, Safety Glasses and Gloves) and more.
We partner with educational organizations such as SaskPolytechnic to provide hands-on trades samplers where you can experience the trades of carpentry, electrical and plumbing. Throughout the 13 weeks there are regular opportunities for you to meet with women who are successful in both the trades and their particular industry. While our employer partners offer unique opportunities for tours, group and individual sessions where you can find out about the “Must Knows” in the industry. The training program wraps up with a 3 week work experience placement with an employer in the construction industry where you will gain first hand knowledge in the workplace and put to work your new knowledge, skills and abilities.
