2017 Women of Distinction Awards “Honour and Thank Women in Our Community”

PotashCorp to Sponsor Women of Distinction Awards®, Nominations and Tickets Now Open

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, February 3, 2017 – YWCA Saskatoon is pleased to announce that PotashCorp will return as the title sponsor of the PotashCorp YWCA Women of Distinction Awards in 2017.

Through its investment, PotashCorp has been a long-standing supporter of local community programs, with the event raising over $500,000 since 2012. Funds raised at the 2017 event are designated for housing, employment, early learning, wellness and trades programs for women and families.

“PotashCorp is proud to support Women of Distinction, because we recognize and value how much women do in our community. These awards are one way to honour them and say thank you,” said Lee Knafelc, PotashCorp’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Administration. “The initiative, creativity and hard work of these nominees is inspiring and we know their stories will encourage others to make their own amazing contributions to our community.”

A theme of “Lift as You Climb” has been selected by the chairs and planning committee for this year’s event, as the fundraising event supports women who are experiencing hardship, and celebrates tremendous accomplishments at the same time.

Nominations are now being accepted in 10 award categories: Arts, Culture & Heritage; Athletics; Community Building; Education; Entrepreneurship; Health & Wellness; Leadership & Professions; Technology & Research; Under 29; and Lifetime Achievement.

Final award recipients will be announced at the awards dinner on May 31 at TCU Place. Tickets and tables are now available. Nomination and ticket info can be found at www.ywcasaskatoon.com or call (306) 244-7034.

Across Canada, the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards® are recognized as one of the most prestigious awards for women. Since 1982, the awards have honoured hundreds of women for their inspirational leadership and extraordinary contributions to Saskatoon and area.
