YWCA Youth Attend City and Colour at SaskTel Jazz Festival

The youth of the YWCA Youth Program would sincerely like to thank the SaskTel Jazz Festival staff for donating tickets to City and Colour on July 3rd!

As a Youth Worker in the Youth Program I heard a couple of times from the youth that they really wanted to go, but they didn’t think they would be able to. Cara, the staff member from the Jazz Festival was really gracious and helpful in making this happen! It is really great when local events are willing to make it possible and accessible for people to attend their event.

The Youth Program at the YWCA houses young women aged 16 – 21 that are under the care and or guardianship of the Ministry of Social Services. Our philosophy is to encourage, support and enable young women towards independence once they move on from our program. We do this by working alongside the youth using the Youth Centered Model of care that encourages youth to have a choice in their place of residence from the programming they attend, to being able to buy their own groceries. In this program we realize that part of growing as a person means that mistakes will be made and we do allow for second chances and use mistakes as an opportunity to teach growth. Alongside the teaching aspect we believe that youth need to be able to relax and have fun while also getting to experience everything Saskatoon has to offer; this is exactly what was achieved by the youth being able to attend City and Colour!!

We always appreciate community support!!
