YWCA Saskatoon’s First Learn-To Pickle Ball Session: Tuesday, September 20th, 2016. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm
North America’s fastest growing sport for older adults is coming to the YWCA. Our tentative date for the introduction of Pickle Ball to YWCA Fitness on 25th will be September 20th at 2:00 pm in the gymnasium. Following that introductory event, we will set time aside in the gymnasium every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm every week.
Doug Brown from Pickle Ball Saskatoon will be helping us by leading Learn-To events for the first few weeks. The plan will be to have Doug and some experienced Pickle Ball players attend our twice-weekly sessions to show our members how the sport works.
Pickle Ball is an emerging sport gaining tremendous popularity with older populations across North America. Fun facts about Pickle Ball:
- Indoor Pickle Ball is played on a badminton court. At the YWCA, we have two courts marked on the floor of our gymnasium.
- The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball although typically a bit smaller.
- The net is set lower than for badminton; making the sport accessible for all.
- Pickle Ball web sites are reporting over 2 million participants in the sport across North America.

To help our members learn the sport, the YWCA will supply introductory level rackets and pickle balls. And if interest arises, we will investigate supplying additional equipment to our members. Our hope is this becomes a regular, fun activity for all our members. Please contact us if you have any questions.
