Turning Points

“The Turning Points program gave me a sense of security, gave me hope toward better things to come, positive support, time to reflect and work on myself and plan for my future. I will always be grateful for the YWCA”.

The purpose of Turning Points is to provide a safe, affordable, supportive living environment for up to 15 single women. Clients have the opportunity to create a stable foundation from which to build upon. Our goal is to assist clients in developing skills and acquiring education that will ultimately enable them to live independently. We achieve this through education, developing life skills and connecting clients with community resources to sustain stability once they are independent. YWCA Saskatoon strives to decrease repeat rates of clients going into crisis and to foster independence by empowering clients and creating a sense of community awareness and involvement.

Each room includes a single bed, small fridge, sink and vanity and closet space. Common areas include kitchen and lounge facilities, washrooms and laundry. Residents are expected to provide their own food and personal items as well as to prepare their own meals.

Funding for Turning Points is through the Saskatoon Health Region. The project began in September 2007. Funding will continue until April 2010. In the first year 22 clients participated in the program.

Turning Points is geared towards assisting our clients to be better equipped to achieve physical, emotional and social well being. It is their success which helps to strengthen our community.
