Crisis Shelter

“The shelter being there for me and my son helped us so much. We are so appreciative. Staff were always there to talk to, no matter what…day or night..staff is always there. It made us feel so safe. I learned that I don’t need others’ approval. I proved to myself that I can do it. I can accomplish anything! I can live life knowing my son and I will be okay!”

The Crisis Shelter consists of 38 beds within 22 rooms. We are the largest shelter in Saskatchewan. We house women, children and female youth for a maximum of thirty days. We are a unique shelter because of the diversity of our clientele. We house women who are fleeing domestic violence or abuse, those who are dealing with mental health issues or addictions, women who are homeless or transient, women working through justice related issues and youth at risk. The crisis shelter provides safe, supportive 24 hour emergency shelter. Crisis Counselors case plan with clients and provide crisis intervention, counseling, referrals and programming using a holistic, client centered approach. Our goal is to assist clients in reaching their own personal goals so they leave the shelter with the support they require to prevent them from going into crisis again.

In 2008-2009 the YWCA Crisis Shelter housed 915 women, children and youth.

“It was a relief to be able to come to the shelter. Staff made me feel secure. They have such compassion. They encouraged me to think positive and lifted me up when I did not want to go on. I was provided with resources I didn’t even know existed.”
