ChildDevboyH5slide72_1YWCA Child Development Centre is a licensed by the government of Saskatchewan Department of Early Learning and Child Care. Low income parents can apply for subsidy to help cover the cost of child care fees.

Programming

The Centre has four child care rooms grouped by age:

Pandas –1 ½ years to 2 ½ years (10 children)
Bunnies – 2 ½ years to 4 years (16 children)
Koalas – 2 ½ years to 5 ½ years (18 children)
Chipmunks – 4 years to 5 ½ years (18 children)

For children who no longer need an afternoon nap, there is a program called Raccoons. Since a limited number of children can be in Raccoons children may have to go on a waiting list until a spot opens up for them. Generally children have to be 3 ½ to be able to be in the Raccoon program.

Staffing

The Child Development Centre operates with 14 people on staff, including a full time cook and an Inclusion Coordinator (who works with children with diverse needs), and a number of casual staff. Many staff have worked for the Centre for many years. All staff have Early Childhood Education training and take part in professional development activities to continue developing their skills.

The Parent Advisory Committee

The Parent Advisory Committee is an operational committee of YWCA Saskatoon and works under the leadership of the Team Leader, Child Development Centre. The committee meets monthly and has the responsibility of making recommendation and providing information and feedback.

The Parent Advisory Committee was instrumental in starting the music program and holds an annual Winter Festival at the Western Development Museum for all the children and their families on a Saturday morning in January each year. They reguarly host special events for the children such as puppet shows. This committee demonstrates their appreciation for staff during Child Care Appreciation month in May each year.

All parents are welcome to attend meetings and become members of this committee.
